Unapologetically defying the status quo, going against the grain, COCO KISSES™️ is an empowered experience celebrating DIVERSITY and INCLUSION in all its forms. We are frequently asked if we are a “black brand for only black people?” Our response, “we are a brand created by a black woman, that is rooted from African culture but for everyone of all shades, shapes, attitudes, personalities, and backgrounds.” Specifically, we aim to target cultural enthusiasts – those who are fascinated by the history, customs, arts, and achievements of a people – as well as, those who are committed to supporting companies that provide fair wages and livable working conditions for our artisans. We pride ourselves in using premium quality, authentic traditional African textiles and high-end fabrics integrated with modern sustainable materials.

It all started when…

Yvette “CoCo” Toko, the Founder, Chief Executive Officer, Creative Director and Lead Designer behind the African Textile & Fashion brand COCO KISSES™, decided in 2013 to attempt to bridge a 'gap in the diaspora' between Africans in Africa, and black people in America, and globally – through the fashion and art worlds.  By developing a distinctive modern interpretation of traditional African accessories and garments – celebrating African artistry and design – she believed she could take the classic spirit and vintage glam of previous eras, and blend them with the edginess and swag of modern fashion, to create a fresh vibe and rendering of the extraordinary styles of her ancestors, mixed with the functionality desired by contemporary womenswear.

More recently, the brand developed a similar formula for bespoke men’s fashion by incorporating the unique, luxury tailor-made sensibility of her ever stylish family men, notable African dignitaries and chiefs, and historical public figures including, acclaimed artists, musicians and black leaders across the diaspora, with an edgy urban–soulful vibe alongside a rhythmic Hip Hop element. With a “think out-of-the-box mindset,” she also loves to incorporate a chic street wear sensibility to the brand’s fashion and styles. Having, like many, also experienced an exodus and blending of cultural influences around the world as her family settled in various parts of Europe and the Americas, Yvette wants her designs and artistry to manifest a juxtaposition of her African roots and heritage, alongside her and her families’ worldly experiences through the arts, music, traveling and diplomacy.
